Life is good with the Hinton's. We are moving children and ourselves. Matt and Kristi moved into our home in Hurricane, we are moving out to the ranch, Dustin & Kami are moving somewhere in So. Utah. Crazy life, but all is good. Harold and I were called to be Ordinance Workers at the Temple. What a wonderful experience we are having there. Perfect for returned missionaries. We are also going to the temple to do my Dad's work on July 30. What a blessing the gospel is in our lives.

I John 5:2 - May 9, 2010
"By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments."

We have had great adventure with our precious family in the two months we have been home from our mission. We are blessed beyond measure to have precious children and grandchildren who love us and one another. Our joy is full. How blessed we are.

We are really home now and enjoying our children and grandchildren. Life is good. We miss the mission field and the spirit we felt there. We are looking forward to the next phase of our lives.

February 21, 2010

We will be leaving our mission to go back home on February 25. The experience has been one of the crowning moments in our lives. Just as Alma glories in the Lord's work, we feel the same. Alma 29:9 & 13.
I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be and instrument in the hands of God, to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy. That same God hath called me by a Holy Calling, to preach the word unto this people, and hath given me much success, in the which my joy is full.

Thanks for the memories

Christmas in the Mission Field

December 27, 2009

Our last Christmas in the mission field! What a joyous experience this has been for us. We have made many priceless friendships and memories. Above all we have become closer to the scriptures and our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. How blessed we are. May we all try harder this new year to draw closer to our Savior through prayer and the scriptures.
Isaiah 9:6 - "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The might God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Prayer and Thanksgiving

D&C 46: 7-8
"But ye are commanded in all things to ask of God, who giveth liberally; and that which the Spirit testifies unto you even so I would that ye should do in all holiness of heart, walking uprightly before me, considering the end of your salvation, doing all things with prayer and Thanksgiving, that ye may not be seduced by evil spirits, or doctrines of devils, or the commandments of men; for some are of men and others of devils.
8. Wherefore, beware lest ye are deceived; seek ye earnestly the best gifts, always remembering for what they are given."

Mission Life - October 4, 2009

Conference was great today. I felt like the theme of it was to Love God, follow his commandments, serve others, and life will go easier for all of us. Why is that so hard for us to do?
Pres. Monson said, "As we heed His words and live the commandments, and as we strive to do His will, we will be blessed, and do good continually." "And it came to pass that I Nephi, said unto my father; I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which He commandeth them. We are so thankful for these teachings.

We went to Bismark, ND, for a senior couple conference. We were able to attend the temple, which we really enjoyed, then we had some spiritual training and good food. It was fun meeting with other couples we rarely see. There are only three senior couples in Rapid City. We also saw a lot of beautiful scenery on our way home.
Here is the thought for the month: 3 Nephi 18:19-21
"Therefore ye must always pray unto the Father in my name;
And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall receive, behold it shall be given unto you.
Pray in your families unto the Father, always in my name, that your wives and children may be blessed."

Highs and Lows

The highs of the last two weeks helped us remember why the gospel is so important in our lives. We went to the baptism of the Fisher family. It was the mom and her two oldest daughters that were 9 and 11. We weren't involved with the teaching of this family, but their baptism touched my heart and spirit. The happiness that showed on their faces was truly touching. We had a wonderful day on Sept. 30. We attended our first district meeting, where we were uplifted and the joys of serving the Lord. That evening, we taught our Institute Class on Dating Standards, then again last night on Chastity. The course is Eternal Marriage. The spirit is there and we discuss these important priciples to the youth of the church. Two members of our class are in the Air Force here. The girl has been to Irag. Some of them have grown up with each other. One has been in the church for about two months. There is a couple that is dating, and are serious about each other. We have about 12 students. We really enjoy teaching them. We are setting up an Institute Class on the campus of the School of Mines this week. We will be teaching The Pearl of Great Price. Also, I had a visit with the Sinus Dr. again. It has been 5 weeks since I saw him last. I have had no medicine, they wouldn't give me an antibiotic or Predisone because they said that it only makes me worse. So, I have taken nothing, because the medicine they prescribed my Insurance Company didn't want to pay for. Dad and Pres. Beau gave me a blessing at the beginning of my sickness. I told the Doctor that I was better because of prayer and that blessing. He said, "I'll accept that." He wrote "remarkable recovery" on his sheet. We went with Elder Wallace to see an investigator, Mark. Mark was scheduled to be baptized on his birthday, the
10th of Oct., but he somehow had his feelings hurt by something he overheard, so we went with Elder Wallace to see what we could do. We had a wonderful discussion, the spirit was in that room. We ended with Elder Wallace and Elder Hinton giving him a blessing. We had an appointment the next day to meet with his wife. We went to that appointment and no one was there. We have not heard from him since. (disappointment) We loved General Conference. My favorite was the Saturday session. I went on splits with the Sisters while Elder Hinton went to the Priesthood Session. Alleshia is a single Mom with two of the cutest girls. We made arrangements for her baptism this weekend on the 11. She is so excited. She has been to church serveral times and wants to make some changes in her life. The little girl's father, not her husband, didn't want to stay with her anymore. We started volunteering at the Elementary School that is close to our apartment. We work in two 5th grades and two 1st grades. One girl in the 5th grade came up to me and pointed to my badge and said, that's the church I go to. We only go on Monday's, but we will enjoy it. Another joy was that we have received mail from our grandchildren. Emma, Elijah, Drake, Makenna, Ty, Aaron, Jennica, Larissa, & Ashton. We have them all hung up on our wall by the kitchen table. Thank you, we love them. Another joy was that we received a phone call from Amber telling us she and Jeremy are going to have a baby in May. Like Grandpa Leavitt says, you can never have enough grandchildren, or great grandchildren in his case. We are excited. Another disappointment is Pine Ridge Home Study Class is having a struggle getting started. We are going to speak there this Sunday. It is two hours away. Pray for us that we will know what to speak about. Because of trials in our lives, I have chosen this scripture to share with you. D&C 58:2-4 For verily I say unto you, blessed is he that keepeth my commandments, whether in this life or in death; and he that is faithful in tribulation, the reward of the same is greater in the kingdom of heaven. Ye cannot behold with your natural eyes, for the present time, the design of your God concerning those things which shall come hereafter, and the glory which shall follow after much tribulation. For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore, the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand." I love you all. The Lord loves you. The gospel is true.

Dear Elder and Sister Hinton,

In about 5 weeks we will be close to the Mississippi River too. Sorry to hear about your sinus trouble. Hope all goes well with that. We are visiting Rob in Oregon and their Quads. They are 6 now and have a lot of energy. I am getting ready to sew again. I worry about being cold in Nauvoo. I hope we can get the right winter clothes. This is the most I have talked to you in years. Keep the Faith. Love, Linda

I got a little (no, a lot) behind on reading your blog. The last few weeks before leaving for Trinidad were pretty hectic. We're here now - been here one week today. We are settled and can get most places in Chaguanas where we are assigned without getting lost. We've visited a lot of people in the last 4 days with different sets of elders and had some great experiences. The only problem is that Elder Leishman and I probably couldn't find our way back to even 1/4 of them. I enjoyed catching up on your mission. Your blog puts mine to shame but I'm going to try to keep it up better. As we say in the West Indies Mission "Hurrah for Israel"! Love, Carol

Be of Good Cheer

Behold, this is the promise of the Lord unto you, O ye my servants, Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come.
